TRANS-FEMORAL PROSTHESIS
Trans-femoral or above-knee (A/K) amputation, which occurs through the thigh, is a very common type of amputation carried out in clinical practice. Typical causes leading to amputation include diabetes, vascular disease and road accidents. A person who undergoes an A/K amputation requires an artificial limb (prosthesis) to stand and walk. The complexity of this amputation is that the prosthesis user now has to control the artificial limb by means of the strength in the residual limb alone. Read more... |
