KALAM-RAJU CORONARY STENT Coronary stents are widely used by cardiologists to dialate constricted arteries for treating heart attacks. India’s first indigenous coronary stent was developed in collaboration with Mediciti Hospitals, Hyderabad. The main objective behind developing these stents was to substantially bring down the cost and make it affordable to the common man. The stent known as Kalam-Raju stent, underwent satisfactory clinical trials. Subsequently nearly 2000 stents were implanted in the next few years at a low cost as against the exorbitant prices of imported stents. |
